If they were this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ prone to EXACTLY the wrong kind of malfunction, they wouldn't have been in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ service.) (they are imperial turrets designed to defend imperial ships, and instead of that, they shoot at me. But it isn't good enough for me, because the "malfunction" is too consistent and exactly wrong. Blessed is the mind too small for doubt, I guess. Yes, I know, they're "malfunctioning", and if that's good enough for you, great. There are just a ton of interesting, strategic uses for static defenses, but they trade all of that potential for having what is essentially a xeno with a ranged attack that's welded to the ceiling. 
They should be placed in areas where they would be an asset for holding back a push or for covering alternate routes or for area denial. They should all be offline by default, but when activated, they should fire AT XENOS.
Those turrets were designed by somebody who doesn't know how to cool.
